Organic Ingredients & Solar-Powered Baking
Traditionally Made Bagels, With Care for the Environment
At Jacob's Bagels, we believe great bagels begin with good ingredients. From the flour we choose to the energy we use to power our ovens, we take pride in how our bagels are made.
Based in Pulborough, West Sussex, we're an independent British bakery combining traditional bagel-making methods with modern renewable energy.
Our Organic Ingredients
We use organic ingredients in our bagel dough, including organic flour from Doves Farm, a British supplier known for its organic baking ingredients.
We believe in keeping our recipes simple. Our bagels are made using traditional ingredients, without artificial preservatives or unnecessary additives.
Every bagel is shaped, boiled and baked using traditional methods. Boiling before baking helps create the distinctive bagel texture, with a firm outer skin and a pleasantly chewy centre.
For our wholesale customers, this means bagels made with care, suitable for toasting, filling and serving in cafés, restaurants, hotels and delis.
Our Solar Powered Bakery
☀️ 44 Solar Panels Helping Power Our Bakery
We've invested in 44 solar panels and battery storage at our Pulborough bakery to reduce our reliance on electricity from the grid.
During the summer months, our solar installation generates enough electricity to power our baking ovens.
Battery storage helps us make better use of the electricity we generate, allowing us to store energy for use when needed.
Our approach is straightforward. We want to produce good food while reducing the environmental impact of our baking operation wherever practical.
Reducing Our Carbon Footprint
Our investment in renewable energy is part of our commitment to running a more responsible bakery.
Our solar installation has recorded an estimated saving of 30.93 tonnes of CO₂, equivalent to approximately 527 trees according to the comparison figures previously recorded for our system.
We continue to look for sensible ways to reduce waste, use energy efficiently and improve how we operate.
Traditional Baking Still Matters
Technology helps us run our bakery more efficiently, but the way we make our bagels remains rooted in traditional baking.
We prepare our dough, shape our bagels, boil them and bake them to produce the texture and flavour associated with traditional bagels.
We believe there is value in taking the time to make food properly.
